Breckenridges oldest pizzeria has changed ownership, adding another chapter to the storied business.
Stacy and Peter Joyce purchased Fattys Pizzeria & Sports Bar in Breckenridge from John Daisy and Ernie Blake on February 28, 2019 for $3,720,000. Jack Wolfe and Aniela Wasmanski, LIV Sothebys International Realty brokers, represented the Sellers, John Daisy and Ernie Blake, as well as the Stacy and Peter Joyce in both the business and real estate transactions.
A Chicago native, fanatic of food traditions and fun times, and a florist extraordinaire (youll see his blooms outside other local restaurants as well), John Daisy has operated Fattys Pizzeria successfully for the last 37 years. For his work at the restaurant and in the community and with the Colorado Restaurant Association, John Daisy was inducted into the Colorado Restaurant Associations Foodservice Hall of Fame in 2012.
John Daisy says hell miss the people he’s worked with, the camaraderie at the pizzeria, the sports fan rivalries, the jokes, making new friends and especially all of the families that came to Fattys over the years. John Daisy is thinking of taking the next year off before getting back into something else, though he doesnt know what that might be just yet.
Fattys Pizzeria serves lunch (11am- 4pm) and dinner (4-10pm) in a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. Housed in a historic building dating back to the late 1800s, Fattys Pizzeria is stocked full of rich memories and shared good times.
I have had the privilege to serve this community most of my career said John Daisy. I am so happy that it will stay with long time locals. I have left Fattys Pizzeria & Sports Bar in great hands.
Peter Joyce is the owner of a local residential construction company, Rockridge Building, and a former member of the towns planning commission and Breckenridge Town Council.
Were just thrilled to be a part of Fattys Pizzeria says new owner Peter Joyce, who explained the deal had been in the works since last July, when Jack Wolfe from LIV Sothebys International Realty brokers first approached him and his wife, Stacy, with the opportunity.
One of the biggest questions locals have been asking of the Joyces since they bought the iconic business last month, Peter said, is whats going to happen to Fattys? In a word, not much.
Over the phone, Peter Joyce detailed how the sale of a commercial property in Boulder facilitated his and his wifes purchase of Fattys through a property exchange. Moreover, he said that he and his wife enjoy investing in the community, and after finding the right people to run the restaurant, they felt confident closing the deal that should keep Fattys operating largely as it has been.
Peter said he is delighted with the new operators. The new management for Fattys Pizzeria includes TJ Messerschidt, and Matt and Lisa Fackler who already operate 2 very successful Breckenridge restaurants, Twist and Relish.
TJ Messerschmitt reiterated the Joyces plans to keep the business running as it has been for so many years. Were going to some make small improvements, like offering new specials starting in the spring, expanding the wine list and hosting a new series of community fundraisers featuring celebrity bartenders, but patrons wont see any wholesale changes at Fattys.
That was the underlying goal to make sure we have really terrific operators before working out the purchase with the former owner, Peter Joyce said, adding that there was certainly a feel-good factor to buying a local restaurant with such a storied history and ensuring that it continues doing business in the community.
